The nearest commercial centre is Takaka township (population 850 residents) 11km from Port Tarakohe. The Golden Bay District has a population of approximately 4,500 residents and has a large supermarket, building supplies, engineering companies, mechanics, banks, accommodation, bars and restaurants, library, churches, and sports and recreational facilities.

Port Tarakohe is situated two kilometres from the coastal village of Pohara. Pohara has a seven-day general store, five restaurants with four bars, bowling club, tennis courts, and a full range of accommodation options (motels, luxury lodge, B&B’s, beach-front camping ground, and rental homes).

Golden Bay has an airport with a sealed runway that can accommodate light aircraft.

We are a major stakeholder in the Port Tarakohe area. Given the siting of our land, we acknowledge the need for a special relationship with the iwi of Golden Bay - Manawhenua ki Mohua.
